Looking forward to TIE 2008

Have you secured a scholarship to TIE this year compliments of DTS Educational Technology, Learning Services Professional Development and your committment to further the 21st century process in St. Vrain?

Are you going to the TIE Pre-conference coordinated by CASL/CAL also or only? I'm trying to work out funds for this as well. . .

Want to join me at the Round Table to further our Student Technology Fair efforts and spin them into a state option at TIE? Aurora and Douglas will be a part of this discussion also. I recently attended TIE South Dakota to learn about their student model.

Are you presenting at TIE? If so, post about your presentation. Did you want to but miss out. Propose a presentation at CAL then. You have until May 23 to submit a presentation.

Any ladies need a free place to stay? I stay at a friends condo in Frisco for free. It is a two bedroom with a hide-a-bed in the living room and a hottub close by. We could have a party!

I look forward to this site getting active again. It was really fun last year, wasn't it. But we neeed to change the year in the title and enable folks to subscribe either through email and/or an rss feed.

Is anybody out there?

Above are some pictures from previous years.

Great ending to TIE

Hi all!

I think I figured this out now. This is a picture of where I went after TIE was over on Friday. Great ending, huh. It is a view of the Ten Mile Range from the top of Tiger Run Road between Frisco and Breckenridge.

Great place for relection. I believe we are going to get where we need to go with technology. Bill's last email to me stated that he was concerned about the buzz about Citrix and Dave Title's blog comment. He asked me to check with our Enterprise Manager to have a dialog about how we are going to allow teacher's to download content to use in their instruction. He also asked that I put this topic on the next DTS Manager's meeting. He agrees that this is a critical shortcoming and should be addressed. He forwarded his reply to the manager and asked that I have a conversation with the Enterprise Manager before the next manager's meeting. I plan to do that Monday.

Please leave your comments of critical topics I should include in these dialogs. And thanks.

Also check out my attempt at a blog and leave me your comments on how I can make it more useful.

After TIE Debrief?

Now that TIE is over, what are you thoughts? Overwhelmed, excited, frustrated? Shouldn't we have a TIE debrief? Is there one already planned? Where and when?

I did get a positive comment from Bill and will post a summary of it soon.

I will be out of town from the 29th - ish until the 11th - ish. I am taking a trip to my home town of Bogalusa, LA during that time and will be back to work Monday the 16th. Would like to be able to be a part of the debrief, if possible.

Tried to insert a picture in this post of my ride after TIE, but it doesn't show up in the preview. Guess I need some training. Go to the link below to see them - "Rob and Sue Adventure". Signon as: stvrainguest

Share Your TIE's Greatest Hits

It was a great time at TIE. The weather was beautiful, Gayle created several nice social events, and no one was injured! Three building principals attended - a first for our district. Good questions were raised. SVVSD was well-represented. Thanks to everyone for participating.

Please let us know how you plan to share some of your learnings. How about hyperlinks to the three best sessions you attended? I could compile your contributions and share them with our St Vrain colleagues - on an interactive wiki?

(Modeling . . .)

Jerry Ohrt, DTS
I attended an excellent presentation about a program that will soon be available in all of the new elementary computer labs - and it's very applicable for students at ALL grade levels. See what you think . . .
Comic Life for Macs
(Find the "It's A Comic Life" section.)

PowerPoint is a wonderful tool but it's been abused too many times, with an emphasis on FORMAT versus CONTENT! This Littleton school's wiki is elementary, but it gives loads of examples of how to use PPT as far more than a slideshow.
Beyond PPT Slideshows

Finally, for what it's worth, here's a link to my presentation (and it was stunning) about creating electronic workbooks for students, using Word and Excel.

A Note From One of Our Cruise Directors - Gayle

About 11:30 or so, head up the American Flyer Lift and we will meet at the restaurant on the top of the mountain for lunch. Folks should bring a light jacket as it get much cooler at the top. You can also opt to "hike" down the easy slopes that traverse the mountain. You can get your lift ticket at the lift by showing them your TIE badge.

Session Alert for Elementary People

Session 311 - It's a Comic Life - Thursday, 8:30
This incredible program is slated to be in all of our new computer labs by August. Among the Mac-aroti, Comic Life is huge, so this session will probably be full. See page 45 of your program for more information.
